Andrew Tunks commenced work with as a junior exploration geologist with Western Mining at Kambalda Nickel Operations in 1988. After leaving Kambalda he gained his PhD in structural geology from the University of Tasmania and returned to industry in 1996. He held senior positions with North Ltd and Paladin Resources, before accepting an exploration role at the Damang Gold Mine for Ranger Minerals. Over the next three years the exploration team added over a million ounces into the resource base at Damang by identifying new opportunities in the near mine environment. In 2001 he returned to Australia to take up a Senior Lectureship in Economic Geology at the world renowned CODES Special Research Centre. The upturn in the minerals market led to a new position of Exploration Manager Botswana for Gallery Gold in 2005, and the post the take over of Gallery by Iamgold he was promoted to chief Geologist. |
