John had 18 years of commercial experience (1982 – 2000) with Rio Tinto’s iron ore division, Hamersley Iron Pty Limited, prior to joining Sphere Investments Limited in 2000. During his time with Hamersley Iron, John had international marketing and iron ore pricing experience in the key markets of Asia and Europe. He worked in the European market (based in London) from 1987 – 1991, the Japanese market from 1993 – 1996, and conducted a major strategic review of China’s iron ore and steel industry (1998/99). Since joining Sphere in 2000, John has been instrumental in developing the Guelb el Aouj iron ore joint venture with Société Nationale Industrielle et Miniére (SNIM) and, as a member of the Sphere Board, has executive responsibility for bringing the Guelb el Aouj DR pellet project into production.
