Matt is a geologist with 17 years experience. He has worked globally on a wide variety of commodities, predominantly lead-zinc, copper, gold and uranium. He qualified as a geologist from the University of Melbourne and was awarded a doctorate in economic geology from the University of Queensland. Matt has held positions at the Geological Survey of Western Australia, AngloGold Ashanti and as a consultant with RSG Global/Coffey Mining.

With Sabre Resources, Dr Painter is responsible for exploration of the highly prospective Otavi Mountainland near Tsumeb in northern Nambia. Matt is also closely involved with several other publicly listed exploration companies to which he advises periodically.
