Lindsay graduated as a mining engineer from the University of Melbourne in 1984 and joined diversified miner RGC Limited where worked in open cut and underground mining operations, across a range of commodities. 

He completed a Masters of Business Administration at the University of Western Australian in 1992 and joined Perth stockbroker Porter Western as a resources analyst.

In 1996 he rejoined the mining industry as business development manager with Perth based junior, Murchison United Ltd, where he was instrumental in the acquisition and restructuring of the Renison Bell tin mine.

Together with co-director Mr Rob Kirtlan he recapitalized  Aviva in 2002 and is now CEO of that company.
