Michael Blakiston holds degrees of Bachelor of Jurisprudence and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Australia. After initially practising as a solicitor and then general counsel, he established his own legal practice in 1984 and then formed a partnership with Rick Crabb in 1992.

 

Michael practises in the areas of resource and corporate law. In these various areas of law, Michael has experience in property, project assessment, structuring and financing, joint ventures and strategic alliances, development arrangements, project commercialisation, initial public offerings, corporate restructuring, takeovers and mergers, corporate and project fundraisings either with debt or equity, construction and service contracts and asset purchases and sales.

 

With the increasing trend towards globalisation, Michael's overseas experience has now covered in excess of 50 countries, many of which have been visited during the course of providing advice. Apart from advising clients Michael has held numerous public company directorships.  

 

Michael's experience has been recognised in the international legal publication "Who's Who Legal" (in 2006, 2008 and 2009) where Michael was acknowledged as being one of the top 20 resources lawyers in the world; and in the 2009 and 2010 editions of the Australian Financial Review’s listing of Australia’s top mining lawyers.
