Hon Najib Balala

Hon. Najib Balala was appointed Cabinet Secretary for Mining in April 2013.

Immediately after his appointment, he embarked on a process of putting in place appropriate policies and institutional frameworks that will enable invigorate the country’s mineral sector through a transparent and accountable manner.

May 2013, Hon. Balala was elected Chairman of the Southern and Eastern Africa Mining Centre (SEAMIC) Governing Council in a forum held in the Federal Republic of Sudan.

Balala is the immediate former Member of Parliament for Mvita costitituency (Dec ’02 – Mar ‘13) where he has an exemplary development record.

Served as Kenya’s Minister for Tourism April 2008-March 2012 where he ensured the sector got a policy and legal framework geared towards its sustainability. As Minister, Hon Balala was elected  Chairman of the United Nations World Tourism Organization in 2011 ,Gyeongju, Korea , elected unopposed as vice chair of UNWTO Executive Council for 2 consecutive terms 2009-1011, Voted best Tourism Minister in Africa 2009 by AI ( Africa Investor) .

Served as Kenya’s Minister for National Heritage (Jun 2005-Nov 2005) where he spearheaded the heritage Bill

Served as Kenya’s Minister for Gender, Sports, Culture &Social Services, Jan 03-Jun 04. Spearheaded the Gender Commission Bill 

Hon Balala was born in 1967 in Kenya and is married to Najaah Balala . He is a father to two sons and two daughters.
