Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs

Ambassador Barry Faure has been serving as the Secretary of State for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, since his appointment by the President of the Republic in January 2013.

Ambassador Faure was previously serving at the Secretary of State in the President’s Office, a role he assumed on 17th June 2010.

In 2009 Ambassador Faure was previously appointed the Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, under the leadership of President Michel, who had assumed the role of Minister for Foreign Affairs.  As Principal Secretary he was responsible for restructuring the Ministry and implementing the President’s policy of active economic diplomacy. Prior to this, President James Michel appointed Barry Faure as Seychelles Ambassador to the European Communities, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal and Andorra in 2006.  During his 3-year term, Ambassador Faure was the lead Ambassador Negotiator (Fisheries) of the Eastern and Southern African Region (ESA) for the Economic Partnership Agreement negotiations of the European Commission.

Between 1995-1998, Amb. Faure held the post of Director for Investment and Trade Promotion at the Ministry of Industry.  He was promoted to Director General for Local and International Business in 1998 and served as Director General of Economic Planning from 2002 to 2006. Amb. Faure began his career in diplomacy in 1992 as First Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social and Political Sciences from Havana, Cuba (1985).  Upon his initial return to Seychelles in 1989, he worked at the Defence Academy as a Senior Civics Lecturer.
