7th Annual Africa-Australia Research Forum

Tuesday 5th September 2017

Novotel Perth Langley Hotel, Western Australia

 Making extractive fuelled growth inclusive

In 2015, the newly elected African Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina laid out a bold and transformative agenda. It was (and still is) to: light up and power Africa, feed Africa, integrate Africa, industrialize Africa and improve the quality of life for the people of Africa. Furthermore, the Bank has articulated that these "High Fives" as they have come to be known can only be delivered via a green and inclusive growth strategy. This year’s forum will explore the role of the extractives sector in delivering on these five objectives of the bank and ask more broadly how such growth can be inclusive and deliver benefit to all. We will be guided, in our discussions, by keynote address speaker Prof. Kevin Urama, Senior Advisor to the President on Inclusive and Green Growth. Additionally, through panels and round tables we will seek to articulate current issues and research questions that can inform African and Australian collaborations into the future.
