Bertrand Montembault is a partner at international law firm Herbert Smith Freehills LLP. He built a broad practice over the past 24 years advising on project implementation, financing and transactions in the mining and energy sectors in Francophone North and sub-Saharan Africa. He very knowledgeable of OHADA harmonised law in Africa and often leads training programmes on this issue.

Bertrand is a member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators and AFDEN (French Association for Energy Law), and an honorary associate of the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy at Dundee University. He also lectures regularly at the French School of Mines and at various universities and schools.
